<div><h3>Background</h3><p>In the Mexican Caribbean, the exotic lionfish <em>Pterois volitans</em> has become a species of great concern because of their predatory habits and rapid expansion onto the Mesoamerican coral reef, the second largest continuous reef system in the world.
