This R-script simulates data and generates plots for expected estimates of offensive sperm competitiveness and their variances in relation to true offensive competitiveness in assays using a) random rival males, and b) standardized rival males. Three different levels of variation in first-male competitiveness and male-male interaction variation are assumed, respectively. This corresponds to figure 1 a,b in the original contribution. Similar simulations assuming variation in female bias towards second males and female-male interaction variation (i.e. fig 1 c,d) can be done with minor changes only
