<p>Results showing: (A) the mean proportion (±SE) of crabs eaten per trial by toadfish in open and closed mesocosms; (B) the mean proportion (±SE) of surviving mud crabs remaining in the mesocosms; (C) the mean number (±SE) of mud crabs that dispersed into sanctuaries; and (D) the proportion of crabs observed along the edges of mesocosms. The number of crab observations was standardized for both the number of observations per trial and by the average number of crabs. Significant effects (p<0.05) of mesocosm design are indicated by asterisks, and the significant effect of toadfish presence/absence is indicated by a tilde. All results are for crabs in original mesocosms, except for C.</p
