<p>A) Turbidostat culture cell density was maintained at set-point by automatic dilutions activated by a sensor tracking optical density at 680 nm. The last 10 cycles of dilution before starting the light-shift experiment were used to calculate the growth rate (μ, d<sup>−1</sup>) by fitting the increase in OD<sub>680</sub> versus time with an exponential curve for each dilution cycle.
