<p>1. A litter of pigs (12) was removed from their mother immediately following birth in order to prevent exposure to the maternal GI microbiota. 2. The pigs were raised in controlled research units and fed medicated milk replacer until weaning (28 days old). 3. At 33 days of age the pigs were randomly assigned to 2 groups based on weight and gender, one of which was inoculated (modulated) with the GI microbiota from a healthy adult boar for seven consecutive days, while the other was not (control). 4.
