Effects of AICAR on glucose uptake in trout myotubes.

<p>Cells were serum starved and stimulated for 24 h in the absence or presence of different doses of AICAR (50, 250 and 500 µM). The effects of AICAR (250 µM) we also tested in the absence or presence of Compound C (CC, 40 µM). Insulin was used as a positive control (1 µM) during the last 30 min of the incubation. Glucose uptake was subsequently determined as described in <a href="http://www.plosone.org/article/info:doi/10.1371/journal.pone.0031219#s2" target="_blank">Materials and Methods</a>. <a href="http://www.plosone.org/article/info:doi/10.1371/journal.pone.0031219#s3" target="_blank">Results</a> are expressed as fold stimulation above the control group, which was set to 1, and shown as the means ± SE of six independent experiments, each performed in triplicate. The asterisk indicates significant differences from control, where different letters indicate significant differences between treatment with or without the inhibitor (P<0.05).
