Using a community-based participatory research (CBPR) approach, we developed the All Nations Breath of Life smoking cessation program and pilot-tested it in urban and reservation communities. The program combines weekly in-person group support sessions with individual telephone calls using motivational interviewing. All sessions include discussion of sacred tobacco and information about quitting and health. We have assessed the scientific validity, cultural-appropriateness, and readability of our program materials and found them to be adequate; participant satisfaction is high.
