Application of two different general anesthesia protocols for dogs during non-invasive diagnostic procedures

Master's thesis was written in 2016 - 2017 years in X small animal clinic. The aim was to evaluate and compare the two different schemes of general anesthesia of dogs in non-invasive diagnostic procedures. It was 80 different age, sex, breed, body condition exploratory dogs. They were divided into two main groups according to the protocols of general anesthesia: Group I: dogs were applied anesthesia scheme of medetomidine, butorphanol and propofol and in Group II general anesthesia was induced by propofol. According to the condition of dogs, they were grouped into risk groups of anesthesia. The study was selected as a non-invasive procedure in order not to cause additional irritation affectings, which could cause physiological parameters changes. Dogs were monitored during general anesthesia. To be more precise, it was checked dog’s heart rate, respiratory rate, rectal temperature, mucous membrane color, capillary filling time, anesthesia depth, palpebral reflex, lower jaw reflex and deep pain reflex every 5 minutes. Futher, all of the results were written in the protocol of general anesthesia. By the way, all of variation of dog’s heart rate, respiratory rate and body temperature during anesthesia were graphically represented. The data was processed by statistical analysis programme of Microsoft Excel 2010. Speaking generally, the statistically significant relationships between findings were calculated by coefficient of correlation. Also, it was estimated the validity of findings by the chi-square test. In the course of the study, it was observed that bradycardia was the main complication of dogs in the I protocol of general anesthesia. More over, bradypnea was often established in dogs of the II protocol of general anesthesia. In both groups, high body temperature (hyperthermia) was observed. What is more, apnea, nystagmus, spontaneous muscle contractions in dogs were resulted in general anesthesia with propofol alone. In more frequent cases, the vital signs of dogs reached critical limits in the III risk group by I protocol of general anesthesia. Otherwise, in II protocol of general anesthesia group the vital signs of dogs reached critical limits in the II risk group. When combined anesthetics were used, the amount of it application was lower (p <0.01). Besides, excited animals require higher doses of drugs (p
