Use of Electronic Information by Scientists at the National Aerospace Laboratories13;

Electronic communication of scholarly scientific information is the fourth revolution in the means of production of knowledge, after spoken language, written language and print media. The coming of age of e-journals, has not only affected the way scholarly information is spread, but also the way information is acquired and how scientific researchers seek that needed information. Today, scientists have adapted to e-journals because of quick, convenient access from their desktops and the very little effort required retrieving the relevant information from them. It is quite obvious that e-journals are a resource of convenience and therfore will be quickly adopted by most of the scholarly groups. National Aerospace Laboratories (NAL) is a constituent of the Council of scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and is India's pre-eminent civil Ramp;D establishment in aeronautics and allied disciplines. The work presented in this paper is confined and restricted to the study the full-text download patterns of e-information (e-journals) by the NAL scientists during the period March 2005 to December 2005. This study has analyzed the data which has been made available by NISCAIR to every individual scientist. The total electronic information downloaded use and their respective trends and behavior have been studied and reported in the paper
