THE success of high-speed civil transport aircraft depends on the minimization of its environmental impact. Foremost among these is the aircraft community noise due to takeoff and landing. In addition to jet noise, forward-propagated engine fan noise is a significant component of the overall noise. The noise radiation directivity pattern is influenced by the design of the inlet.
