Add to ORKGThis study considers the concept of a self-governing community. Such a community is operated by residents who are firstly conscious of their responsibility in regard of community management. The author infers the possibility of a self-governing community developing from a co-operative support system within the community. In this study, the author suggested adjustment to some of these support systems (self-support system, mutual support system, common support system and governmental support system) in keeping with the structural reform of social welfare in Japan in and after 1990
