We have used a modal control approach to suppress the vibration amplitude of a laminated composite plate. The monolithic piezo crystals are employed as distributed actuators, sensors and are surface bonded at 0 deg, 45 deg positions on the plate. Optimal control gain estimated off-line is converted as feedback voltage and is implemented in an analog control system. The piezo actuators placed at 45 deg position are found efficient in controlling the torsion mode, however 0 deg crystals are observed effective in bending modes control. The displacement and velocity of the system are used in the closed loop feedback control as actuation signals.
