Nestled in the mountains of central Minas Gerais is the colonial town of Ouro Preto (formerly known as Vila Rica), the center of the large gold rush in the Eighteenth century. In 1776, Ouro Preto was over three times as populous as New York. It is the birthplace of the Brazilian baroque master, António Francisco Lisboa or Aleijadinho (the Little Cripple), whose magnificant sculptures and architectural works can be seen in several of the region\u27s colonial towns.Localizada nas montanhas da região central de Minas Gerais, está a cidade colonial de Ouro Preto (antigamente conhecida como Vila Rica), o centro da grande corrida ao ouro no século XVIII.
