The School in Sociological Community Research Studies

The task undertaken in this thesis is to make comparisons between the objectives of education as set forth by the National Education Association and the conclusions regarding public education which were reached by the research workers in eight community social research studies. Briefly, the norms adopted for this thesis are the objectives of education in democracy as formulated by the Educational Policies Commission of the National Education Association. These objectives are (1) self-realization, (2) improved human relationships, (3) economical efficiency, and (4) Civic Responsibility. The quest asked, then, in the analysis of each of these community studies is this: Insofar as it can be determined from the generalizations made by these research workers, is each of these objectives achieved or striven for in that community\u27s provisions for public education
