We know that, in the aftermath of accidents, crises, disasters, and other extreme events, implementing changes that would reduce the probability of recurrence can be problematic. But we don’t have a good understanding of why that should be so, or of the implications for post-event management. The field of crisis studies thus offers unique opportunities for theoretical understanding and organizational practice to inform and enrich each other. Indeed, reducing the incidence and impact of extreme events depends on this link.
