The main objective of this PhD research is to develop an original preliminary cradle-to-grave life cycle assessment (LCA) of the rapeseed-derived hydrotreated renewable jet (HRJ) fuel pathway from multiple U.S. states. The analysis evaluates the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and energy demand per MJ fuel produced and used that are induced through replacing either the fallow period with rapeseed or displacing the existing food cropping systems by a rotation cropping system of rapeseed and wheat. The second objective of this research is to investigate the effects of torrefaction severity and pretreatment on the quality of bio-oil produced by fast pyrolysis of rice straw
