Mean soundings over different latitude belts of northern tropical atmosphere have been worked out for four seasons. The soundings thus obtained have been used to compute the mean static stability. The investigation of static stability reveals that the lower troposphere in all the seasons are statically stable and conditionally unstable, and the instabilities are more pronounced in summer than in winter. The role of moist static stability in tropical meteorology has been discussed
