The work of ambulance paramedics is usually physically and emotionally draining and can place significant amounts of pressure on the emergency service worker. The work they do can impact their social life, their family and ultimately, their health. The primary aim of this research was to explore the psychological and social coping strategies of ambulance paramedics, in dealing with the day to day aspects of their work in the context of their long term health and well-being. A secondary aim was to examine the use of current peer support programs and other referral services used by paramedics.
