This thesis examines emerging issues in the governance of non-profit sport and\ud recreation organisations.\ud Firstly, the thesis examines definitions of non-profit organisations and the\ud contribution that non-profit organisations make to society, especially, the contribution\ud to aspects of the civil society. The thesis then explores current theory relating to\ud social capital formation, non-profit organisation governance and public sector reform\ud and establishes a broader framework for considering issues relating to non-profit\ud organisation governance.
