This paper does not look specifically at language as a tool of drafting legal texts or for that matter language in the literary sense. It is rather inward looking and will focus on the construction of international conventions specifically the United Nations Connvention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG). It is hoped that it will stimulate discussion and contributes towards the recognition of the existence of a "global language" which is necessary for the success of any international uniform law
