Den missförstådda förorten? : En kvantitativ innehållsanalys om Göteborgs Postens gestaltning av Biskopsgården under året 2015

The purpose of this thesis is to examine how the socio- economic disadvantaged suburb Biskopsgården has been portrayed in the Swedish newspaper Göteborgs Posten during the year of 2015. These types of Swedish suburbs are often commonly located in the outskirts of major cities and a common denominator for these types of areas is that they are often seen as “problem areas” in media. The material for this research is articles published by Göteborgs Posten regarding Biskopsgården. A total of 285 articles published during 2015 have been analyzed in order to fulfill the purpose of this essay. In order to decide the overall feeling of the articles a so called “code scheme” has been used. The code scheme contained different variables which made it easier to decide the overall feeling of the article. The results of this research showed that Biskopsgårdens media coverage is dominated by a large share of negative reporting, as well as the most common topic is crime news.
