In a symposium on Sex for Sale, it seems natural and appropriate to examine the relationship between sex, on the one hand, and work, on the other. After all, work is perhaps the word most frequently used to refer to the sale of human labor and services in market-oriented societies. So it is fitting that Dr. Farley\u27s paper begins our inquiry today by asking: Is it acceptable to refer to prostitution as labor, sex work, or a job ?
