peer reviewedThe present article will analyse the migration journeys of asylum-seeking Kurds who left Turkey for France after the 1980 coup. After several changes and temporary camps, these women and men finally settled in Loire-Atlantique, a department of western France generally considered as a “low immigration area”. Their journeys and migration patterns will gradually show growing correlation and links with those of former economic migrants from Turkey in the 1970s, whether Turks or Turkey-based Kurds. This observation then triggers further questioning and investigations related to the relations between these first generations of migrants and the more recent Kurd refugees.
