International audienceThis contribution should be looked at within a semiotic and pragmatic framework grounded in cognitive and social psychology. What are the cognitive operations (attention, perception, memory) which support visual transfers from a cultural domain to another ? The analysis deals specifically with a corpus taken from ordinary advertising. It focuses on the typographic choices which enable to evoke a foreign cultural code into another (Arabic, Russian or Greek into French for example).Our hypothesis is that the offsetting created by these variations are not only the result of graphic designers creativity.
