International audienceThis article focuses on factors that encourage farmers to sell their production directly to consumers. Based on data from the Farm Accountancy Data Network 2006–2014, we establish profiles of direct selling farms. They are smaller and propose an increased range of produce compared to other farms. Beyond sectorial differences, their common feature is the use of fewer pesticides, which is consistent with the quality signal sent to consumers.
