: Between the caudillo and the President: the role of lawyers in the implementation of agrarian reform. Tlaxcala, 1915-1923

International audienceThe deterioration of the relationship between justice and society throughout the 19th century led to marginalize the court proceedings as a mediator privileged at the settlements of disputes. During the revolution, the distrust towards the justice was powered by an Executive that fostered it suspected to them judges susceptible of sympathize with them supporters of the old regime. Nevertheless, when it comes to institutionalize the revolution - with the constitutionalists - judges became necessary partners for the implementation of the agrarian law of January 6, 1915. It is this role of mediator between opposing actors and moving in a game whose rules were only partly new, what we studied "flush" in a central Mexico State where the sources are exceptionally well preserved.La degradación de la relación justicia-sociedad a lo largo del siglo XIX llevó a la marginalización de las instancias judiciales como mediadores privilegiados para la resolución de conflictos. Durante la Revolución, la desconfianza hacia la justicia fue alimentada por un ejecutivo que fomentaba la sospecha hacia los jueces susceptibles de simpatizar con los partidarios del Antiguo Régimen. Pero a la hora de institucionalizar la Revolución – con los Constitucionalistas – los jueces se convirtieron en socios necesarios para la aplicación de la ley agraria del 6 de enero de 1915. Es este papel de mediador entre actores opuestos y moviéndose en un juego cuyas reglas eran sólo en parte nuevas, lo que estudiamos “a ras de suelo” en un Estado del México central donde las fuentes se encuentran excepcionalmente bien conservadas
