A timesharing benchmark was run on five different configurations of an IBM/370-168 system under the operating systems OS/VS2 Rel. 3 (MVS) and TSS/370 Rel. 2.Although the aim was to identify the configuration being best suited for both operating systems, the measured data allowed also a comparison of MVS and TSS under different workloads and configurations. The hardware configurations, the benchmark, the measurement procedure, and the measured data are presented. The results are discussed and an attempt is made to compare the performance of the different hardware/software configurations quantitatively
