BAHASA LOKAL SEBAGAI REPRESENTAMEN ILMU PENGETAHUAN

In this era of globalization, the role of an international language is essential in the interaction between nations. As a result, that international language, naturally, shifts the role of the local language. Local language empowerment through teaching language proficiency is not a strategic effort to overcome this issue. The local language should be positioned as a science that must be learned. Language serves as a cultural reference. Language is culture representation that symbolizes, expresses, and realizes the culture. Local cultural essence that is represented through the local language is a national identity. Politeness expressed through language, idioms or other expressions of culture in the local language are included in communication and are capable of strengthening the illocutionary force of speech. Participants are encouraged to respond to such speech acts used to communicate intent. The culture contained in the local language can be a driving force to learn the local language. Local cultural wisdom is a marker of national identity. Each idiom or expression of culture in the local language can be interpreted either wisely or imprudently. In order to strengthen national identity, local wisdom should be carefully selected and applied in the society so that national identity is maintained and becomes resilient in facing globalization. Indonesian is not the language that represents the culture of Indonesia, but local cultures that come together are capable of making the Indonesian language the language of Indonesian culture
