In 2005, more than 44,000 individuals were victims of sexual assault in the 12 months leading up to the survey conducted by the Australian Bureau of Statistics in 2005. Rape is a huge problem within society and often, due to feelings of fear and embarrassment about what people may think of them according to rape myths, the crime is highly underreported. Previous research has shown that there is a relationship between similarity and empathy on attributions of victim blame.
