Obstetric violence is a type of gender violence and it implies violation of human rights, characterized by the imposition of harmful interventions to the physical and psychological integrity of pregnant women, perpetrated by health professionals and institutions (public and private) in which such women are assisted. Thus, this paper has as the purpose to discuss obstetric violence as well as its characterization through the judgments of the Supreme Federal Court (STF) and the Superior Court of Justice (STJ).
