This article explores the use of the concepts of time, space and their affinities in a historical text about the railway in Portugal. This is the first report on the railway network in operation (1858), which reveals the positions of João Crisóstomo de Abreu e Sousa - engineer, military and politician (1811-1895) - regarding time savings and the reorganizing role of the railroad on the market, territory and civilization
