Urban photovoltaic capabilities' evaluation utilizing GIS We propose a methodology based on GIS technology to evaluate the solar radiation on the different faces of the roofs in an urban area. This methodology is based on complex algorithms used to model the phenomenon of solar radiation onto detailed 3D models of buildings, also for heterogeneous and morphologically complex problems. The proposed methodology provides support for the energetic planning of a territory as it facilitates the evaluation of the photovoltaic potential of a particular site, using highly informative detail and a wide reference scale on the territory
