Molecular genetic markers are valuable tools for many genetic and genomic applications. Over the last few years, bioinformatics tools have been applied for the automated discovery, characterisation, management and interrogation of molecular markers. I have developed an advanced tool for the discovery and characterisation of two types of molecular marker, single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and simple sequence repeats (SSRs). This thesis, together with the attached peer reviewed publications describes this work. This research has resulted in four publications with a further publication submitted
