<p>Myelin is an extension of the plasma membrane of the oligodendrocyte. Compact myelin is devoid of cytoplasm. Cytoplasmic channels, which are continuous with the oligodendrocyte cytoplasm, form the so-called inner and outer myelin loops as well as the longitudinal incisures.</p
