The up-on-the-beat pattern (black trace) became unstable initially at around 2.6 Hz, and the down-on-the-beat pattern was then adopted. (B) When the weight of the hand was inverted, the down-on-the-beat pattern was not maintained reliably beyond 2.25 Hz. In the up-on-the-beat trials no such loss of stability was exhibited.
