Baseline clinical characteristics of participants stratified by atrial fibrillation (AF) status at follow-up.

<p>Sample size, <i>n</i> = 400. Data are means ± SD, medians (interquartile range) or percentages. Differences between the groups were tested by the unpaired-<i>t</i> test (for continuous variables), the chi-squared or the Fisher’s exact test (for categorical variables) when appropriate.</p><p>ALT, alanine aminotransferase; GGT, gamma-glutamyl-transferase; LVH, left ventricular hypertrophy; NAFLD, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.</p><p>Hypertension was defined as blood pressure ≥140/90 mmHg and/or treatment.
