<p>Result of partial least squares multivariate analysis performed across ten soils for each of 12 different treatments. Two indices of soil iron (FeA: acid hydroxylamine-extractable iron and FeP: pyrophosphate-extractable iron) were ranked alongside other soil properties commonly considered to control soil N2O emission. The size of each bar is given by the variable importance in the projection (VIP) value, and indicates the relative strength of each variable in explaining emission in that treatment. WHC = water holding capacity; DOC = dissolved organic carbon.</p
