Effect of the transgenic <i>Drosophila-Sciara</i> chimeric SXL proteins on male viability with and without endogenous normal <i>Sxl</i> allele.

<p>The crosses to produce the males with a wild type endogenous <i>Sxl</i> allele are the following. For SXM, females <i>yw; Sxm/MKRS,Sb</i> & males <i>w/Y; arm-GAL4[w⁺]</i>; for SXS, females <i>yw; Sxs/MKRS,Sb</i> & males <i>w/Y; arm-GAL4[w⁺]</i>; for SX17, females <i>yw; Sx17/MKRS,Sb</i> & males <i>w/Y; arm-GAL4[w⁺]</i>; for SX64, females <i>yw; Sx64/CyO,Cy</i> & males <i>w/Y; arm-GAL4[w⁺]</i>; for SX35, females <i>yw; Sx35/CyO,Cy</i> & males <i>w/Y; arm-GAL4[w⁺]</i>; and for SX28, females <i>yw; Sx28/CyO,Cy</i> & males <i>w/Y; arm-GAL4[w⁺]</i>. Experimental males refer to those carrying the transgene and control to those carrying the balancer chromosome. The crosses to produce the males with an endogenous <i>Sxl</i> null allele are the following. The females in all crosses were <i>ywSxl^f1ct⁶/FM7; arm-Gal4,w⁺</i> and the males were: for SXM, <i>yw/Y; Sxm/MKRS,Sb</i>; for SXS, <i>yw/Y; Sxs/MKRS,Sb</i>; for SX17, <i>yw/Y; Sx17/MKRS,Sb</i>; for SX64, <i>yw/Y; Sx64/CyO,Cy</i>; for SX35, <i>yw/Y; Sx35/CyO,Cy</i>; and for SX28, <i>yw/Y; Sx28/CyO,Cy</i>. Experimental males refer to those carrying the endogenous <i>Sxl</i> null allele plus the transgene and control to those carrying the endogenous <i>Sxl</i> null allele plus the balancer chromosome.
