Mossy fiber sprouting in the post-status epilepticus chronic stage.

<p>There were more prominently Timm's-stained fibers in the hippocampal CA3 area in <b>A,</b> the STZ+V group (strata pyramidale and oriens; <i>arrow</i>), than in <b>B,</b> the STZ+PGB group. There were also more Timm's-stained fibers in <b>C,</b> the NS+V group (strata pyramidale and oriens; <i>arrow</i>), than in <b>D,</b> the NS+PGB group. <b>E:</b> The Timm's score for the quantitative analysis of mossy fiber sprouting in the CA3 region was significantly higher in the STZ+V and NS+V groups than in the other two groups (STZ+V versus STZ+PGB, **<i>p</i><0.01; NS+V versus NS+PGB, *<i>p</i><0.05) (ANOVA, n = 5 in each group).
