Comparison of transcriptional response caused by different ZnO nanoparticles.

<p>A) The response of Jurkat cells to differentially modified ZnO nanoparticles was analyzed with in three replicate experiments. The figure shows the fold changes of the differentially expressed genes throughout the treatments clustered with correlation distance and complete linkage. The rows present the genes detected as differentially expressed at least in one of the comparisons. The characteristics of the ZnO nanoparticles are listed in <a href="http://www.plosone.org/article/info:doi/10.1371/journal.pone.0068415#pone-0068415-t001" target="_blank">Table 1</a>, <a href="http://www.plosone.org/article/info:doi/10.1371/journal.pone.0068415#pone.0068415.s014" target="_blank">Table S1</a> and <a href="http://www.plosone.org/article/info:doi/10.1371/journal.pone.0068415#pone.0068415.s015" target="_blank">Table S2</a>. B) Expression of the genes annotated as cytokines in the Ingenuity Knowledge Base and detected as differentially expressed in response to ZnO-1 EN exposure in HMDM or Jurkat cells. The expression of the genes is shown with the Illumina and the Affymetrix platforms. The Illumina data represents the probe having the biggest difference between the treated and the control samples. Only the genes measured with both of the platforms are shown. In both of the figures the columns represent the logarithmic fold change value of the limma analysis when the EN-treated samples were compared against the non-treated control cells.
