Altered expression of inflammatory proteins in the hippocampus after occlusion of the bilateral common carotid artery (BCCAO).

<p>(A) The hippocampus was immunostained with Iba-1 at 21 and 70 days after BCCAO in rats and (B) the number of Iba-1 positive microglia was quantified in each region (0.03 mm²) of the hippocampus (CA1, CA3) and the dentate gyrus (DG). The values shown are the mean ± SD of groups of 8 rats. The groups were compared using Student’s <i>t</i>-test, with <i>p</i>-<i>values</i><0.01 being considered significant. (C) The protein expression of cyclooxygenase-2 (Cox-2), interleukin (IL)-1β and IL-6 in the hippocampus was measured in a time-dependent manner in rats with BCCAO.
