Thioredoxin reductase deletions do not modulate selenite, selenide, or selenate toxicity.

<p>N2 (•), <i>trxr-1(−/−)</i> (□), <i>trxr-2(−/−)</i> (○), and <i>dko</i> (▪) L1's were cultured with graded levels of selenite (A), selenide (B), and selenate (C) as described in <a href="http://www.plosone.org/article/info:doi/10.1371/journal.pone.0071525#pone-0071525-g004" target="_blank">Figure 4</a>. Values represent the mean ± SEM, and lines are 4-parameter sigmoidal regressions for each Se form. For all response curves, no Se-supplemented mean was significantly higher than the 0 mM Se mean, P>0.05. The LC₅₀ values for selenate were significantly different (<i>P</i><0.001) from values for selenite and selenide, as shown in <a href="http://www.plosone.org/article/info:doi/10.1371/journal.pone.0071525#pone-0071525-t001" target="_blank">Table 1</a>, indicating selenate is 1/4^th as toxic as selenite and selenide irrespective of <i>trxr</i> deletion.
