Providing health care to newly arrived refugees within the primary health care system has proved challenging. The primary health care sector needs enhanced capacity to provide quality health care for this population. The Primary Care Amplification Model has demonstrated its capacity to deliver effective health care to patients with chronic disease such as diabetes. This paper describes the adaption of the model to enhance the delivery of health care to the refugee community. A 'beacon' practice with an expanded clinical capacity to deliver health care for refugees has been established.
