A study was conducted to determine the learning benefits for Year 7 students using digital video production to represent knowledge gained during investigations into the workings of a balance beam. The writing-to-learn in science model by Prain and Hand (1996) was adapted to provide a framework for the study. Students produced videos to explain scientific concepts to a younger audience. One of the video producers’ most prevalent behaviours was rehearsal of the concept explanation prior to filming each segment.
