<p>In the fibrous cartilage, horizontal elastin fibres were found in the superficial zone (A); longitudinal elastin fibres with branches were found in the middle (B) and deep (C) zones. In the hyaline cartilage, elastin fibres were parallel to the articular surface and only found in the superficial zone (D). There were no resolvable elastin fibres in the ECM but fine elastin around chondrocytes was found in the middle (E) and deep (F) zones. Scale bar = 20 µm.</p
