Reduced motor performance and thigmotaxis behaviour in <i>Elfn1^−/−</i> mice.

<p>(A) <i>Elfn1^+/−</i> mice completed a wire hang trial with a success rate of 91.67% and <i>Elfn1^−/−</i> mice were only successful in 62.5% of the trials (n = 8/genotype; 3 trials per mouse; <i>p</i> = 0.0363). (B) The time taken to complete a successful trial was analysed and <i>Elfn1^−/−</i> mice took considerably longer to reach a pole (<i>p</i> = 0.0054). Data expressed as mean±SEM (n = 22 for <i>Elfn1^+/−</i> and n = 15 for <i>Elfn1^−/− mice</i>). Student's t test was used to compare the means. (C,D) Percentage of total time spent in the centre zone on day 1 (C) and day 2 (D). <i>Elfn1^−/−</i> mice spent more time in the centre zone than <i>Elfn1^+/−</i> mice on both days (<i>p</i> = 0.0031 for day 1, and <i>p</i> = 0.0496 for day 2; n = 10/genotype). (E,F) Percentage of total distance travelled in the centre zone on day 1 (E) and day 2 (F). <i>Elfn1^−/−</i> mice travelled further than <i>Elfn1^+/−</i> mice in the centre zone on both days (<i>p</i> = 0.023 for day 1 and <i>p</i> = 0.0076 for day 2).
