<p>Multi-layered gingival epithelial cell cultures were challenged for 3 h or 24 h with the 10-species or 7-species (excluding <i>P. gingivalis</i>, <i>T. forsythia</i>, <i>T. denticola</i>) subgingival biofilm. IL-8 secretion in the culture supernatant was measured by ELISA. Bars represent mean values ± SEM from three independent cell cultures in each group. One-way ANOVA was used to calculate the differences between groups. Asterisks represent statistically significant differences between groups (<i>P</i><0.05).</p
