<p>At four weeks of age, mutant mice homozygous for the <i>Sharpin<sup>cpdm</sup></i> (B) and <i>Sharpin<sup>cpdm-Dem</sup></i> (D) alleles both exhibit a similar chronic proliferative dermatitis phenotype visible in H&E stained skin (<i>Sharpin<sup>cpdm</sup></i> F,J; <i>Sharpin<sup>cpdm-Dem</sup></i> H,L) when compared to WT littermates (E,I and G,K respectively). However, the onset is much more rapid in <i>Sharpin<sup>cpdm-Dem</sup></i> mice as evidenced by the significantly increased epidermal thickening at four and six weeks (U) and by the increased numbers of apoptotic cells (v) indicated by antibody detection of cleaved CASPASE 3 (P) and CASPASE 9 (T) when compared to <i>Sharpin<sup>cpdm</sup></i> mutants (N,R) or WT mice (M,Q,O,S). ...
