<p>The maximum power dissipation of a differential synaptic weight changes depending on whether feedback is present or not. In the absence of feedback, the power is maximized when the conductance of each path is the same and the output descends into randomness. When feedback is present the synapse may converge to one of two possible configurations, and the power dissipation increases by a factor of four.</p
