Briefly, a mouse trained to pull a lever (brass color) for water reward (blue water drop) was fixated in the RIVETS system under anesthesia. A small craniotomy was made and an 8 shank silicon probe array with 64 recording sites was lowered in to the dorsal striatum (depicted in the inset). Recordings were initiated ∼1 hour after recovery from anesthesia when the mouse was awake and actively moving the lever to obtain a water reward.
